Diversion Safes

Our Diversion Safe FAQs gives you the background to keep your important stuff safe and secure. Scroll down for the best hidden safes you can find.

What is a diversion safe?

A diversion, or secret stash, safe is any type of container that can hold valuables while disguised as an ordinary, household object. It can be movable such as a mock hair-spray bottle or semi-permanent such as a mock electrical outlet. It has a hidden compartment that is revealed when the object is opened.

Why do I need a hidden safe?

Prying eyes and sticky fingers are unfortunately a fact of life. It may be Gramma’s heirloom ring that you want to keep safe, or adoption papers revealing your true identity. What is your private business should remain your private business.

How much stuff will a diversion safe hold?

Generally speaking, a diversion safe is made to hold small amounts such as jewelry, money, or important papers.

Can I make my own diversion safe?

Certainly. However, it probably will not look as well as a professionally made one, and may not protect your important items as well. As inexpensive as they are it makes financial sense to order one that is guaranteed to look good and perform well.

Are hidden safes effective.

Yes. The number one rule to keeping an effective diversion safe is simply not to tell anyone that the object is really a safe. The moment you disclose what it is to someone is the moment that it becomes less safe. The second rule is to keep the safe in a location where it should be. A diversion safe that mimics a Gunk Engine Degreaser should be left in the garage or workroom… not in the bedroom in a drawer.

An important concern that we address in our store is to give enough variety so that no one can “know” all the different types of diversion safes. There are ones to choose from that fit into any part of the home or office. No matter your lifestyle or type of living arrangement you will find something that both will fit and will be indistinguishable from the hundreds of other household objects you already have.

What is the best diversion safe?

The best diversion safe is one that fits your lifestyle. If you have wooden floors in your dwelling you probably don’t want a Love My Carpet Deodorizer Diversion Safe. If everyone knows you don’t own a car, then an Emergency Tire Inflator with Hose Diversion Safe would not work well.

Does a diversion safe require tools to install?

There are a few such as the wall socket safe that requires you to cut into the drywall. An inexpensive keyhole saw will do the job for you.

Are there outdoor diversion safes?

The standard outdoor diversion safe is one that mimics a rock. There are also thermometers and wall clock diversion safes that may fit into an outdoor location. These are normally small for holding a key.

Are there diversion safes for cars?

Many of our hidden safes are products that are commonly found in cars and trucks. If placed in the truck or other secure place with like-minded containers no one will give it a second look.
