I trust that these basic Stun Gun and Taser FAQs will help you find the right one for you here in our store. For more information read my “Stun Gun FAQs” on my blog.

Should I get a stun gun or a Taser?

While both work by sending an electrical current into an attacker’s nervous/musculature system and disrupting his ability to function they have different approaches. The choice is up to you.

What's the difference between a stun gun and a Taser?

A stun gun works by contact… it has two or more electrical contacts that must touch a portion of the other person’s body. This means that you must be within at least arms reach or closer to a person to effectively use it. A Taser works by shooting (under pressure, not like a firearm) metal probes at the clothing or skin of a person. The probes lodge into the person and the electrical current follows. They can be as far away as ten feet and still be effective.

Are stun gun effects permanent or dangerous?

No, they wear off within a short time, usually 15 minutes or so depending upon the length of the shock, the power of the stun gun, and the person himself. However, there are several factors that effect that. A person with a weak heart or other physical problems may not be able to handle a stun as well as a healthy person. Repeated stunnings within one or two minutes may also cause more permanent damage. A number of police departments have been sued for doing such things when it is really unnecessary to subdue a person. The general rule that will keep you out of trouble is that once a person is no longer a threat to you, you cannot continue to use harmful self defense efforts against him. And, of course, a person who is stunned can always fall down and hit his head on the concrete curb.

Can I legally own a stun gun?

Some states have moderate to severe restrictions on citizen ownership of stun guns. We obey all state laws in the selling of such items.

What if multiple people are attacking me?

Stun guns can be fired multiple times. The stronger the initial battery charge the more times in a row it can be used. A larger battery also gives you the ability to give a longer stun.

How should I carry my Taser or stun gun?

The best place to carry a Taser or stun gun is where it is both comfortable and easy to access. The best stun gun is no good if it is left on a side drawer by the bed while you are out. There are holsters that fit on both the waist belt or in the purse.

Are stun guns and Tasers really effective?

Yes, if used properly and if the battery is properly charged. Even those under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be incapacitated.
